What is a Node?

Node is a name that refers to each computer or program connected to the network of Bitcoin (BTC) and other cryptocurrencies.

For example, when a computer, smartphone, or tablet device is connected to the cryptocurrency network, these devices are called nodes.

The functions of a node include the following four points.

  • Routing
  • Blockchain database
  • Mining
  • Wallet

There are nodes that are mainly used for mining, which is the act of rewarding and issuing new bitcoins, as well as nodes used for the wallet function, which manages the addresses used for bitcoin transactions.

In cryptocurrencies other than Bitcoin, there are nodes that have various functions in the same way. For example, Ethereum also has nodes that have mining and wallet functions.
